Women's Soccer Notebook - Aug. 31 - Sept. 5

Ravens look to extend shutout streak against Friends

Just one match on the schedule this week for Benedictine Women's Soccer as they host Friends University on Wednesday. The match has been rescheduled twice and will finally play at 11 a.m. in a rare matinee match on campus.

Home debut Shutout
The Ravens hosted Ottawa University on Saturday in its first match on Legacy Field and earned a 6-0 shutout over the Braves and scored the quickest goal of the season to get the scoring started.

Benedictine netted the first goal of the match just 43 seconds in when Payton Vogelbacher scored off an assist from Jenna Wilken. 

The Ravens were able to play 24 players throughout the match, with ranges from 17 minutes to the full 90.

Two Shutout Week
The Ravens played two keepers in goal as they posted a 3-0 win over (RV) Hastings on Aug. 26, before following up with the home shutout on Saturday.

Campbell Gregory recorded her first career shutout against the Broncos midweek, recording 5 saves over 90 minutes.

Emma Smith earned the Saturday start in goal, and registered 3 saves over her 90 minutes in goal, giving the Ravens a pair of solid defensive performances in goal on the week.

First Player of the Week Honors
Jenna Wilken became the first Raven to earn weekly honors from the Heart of America Athletic Conference on Monday when she was named the Heart Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Wilken finished the week with a total of 7 points (2 goals, 3 assists) capping her first start ot the year against Ottawa with 1 goal and 2 assists. Wilken's two matches last week marked her first minutes of the year.

What about Friends
The Falcons enter play with the Ravens at 0-1-1 so far this season with its loss of the season coming at the hands of NCAA Div. I Oral Roberts 4-0. They fallowed that with a scoreless draw against Mid-America Christian University.

Through 180 minutes so far this season, the Falcons have allowed 21 shots on goal and a total of 42 shots at an average of 21 shots per match.

Kaitlyn Martinez has played all 180 minutes in goal so far this season, giving up 4  total goals with 17 saves and a 2.0 goals-against average. 

The Falcons have a total of 13 shots this season with just 3 total on goal.

Series History
Wednesday's match marks the fifth meeting between Benedictine and Friends since the 2011. Records are available online back to 2009 with no previous meetings listed. The Ravens are 4-1-0 in the series, but lost the last meeting between the two schools back Aug. 21, 2024 when the Falcons earned a 2-1 win in Wichita. The previous meeting on Legacy Field came on Aug. 17, 2023 when Benedictine earned a 1-0 win.

Next Up
Wednesday's match with Friends wraps up the non-conference schedule for the Ravens. They will open up Heart play on Sept. 12 with a trip to Oskaloosa, Iowa,  against William Penn University. They will make their return to campus on Sept. 15 for a conference match against (15) MNU.
