WICHITA – Benedictine Softball went 3-1 over the weekend playing four games over two days in an Invitational hosted by Friends University on Saturday and then a doubleheader on Sunday against the Falcons.
Saturday in the Invitational, the Ravens earned an 8-5 win over Sterling College and a 16-4 win over York. Sunday, the Ravens opened the doubleheader with a 9-1 win before Friends took game two, 3-1.
Benedictine 8, Sterling 5
The Ravens used a 2-run sixth to put away the Warriors for their first win of the weekend.
Lacey Foster earned the win inside the circle, throwing 4 innings. Foster finished with 5 strikeouts over her time, giving up 4 earned runs off 9 hits before Bailey Selvage earned the save, throwing the final 3 innings with 7 strikeouts.
Alena Velilla led the way at the plate, going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a home run. Lauren Gaitley added a home run and a double to go along with 2 RBI while Reagan Enright and Ashley Rindom added a double each.
Benedictine 16, York 4 - 5 innings
The Ravens needed five inning in their second game on Saturday, scoring 11 runs in the third inning.
Kaeylyn Conrad earned the win inside the circle, throwing 4 innings, giving up 2 runs off 3 hits with 6 strikeouts.
The Ravens finished with 5 extra base hits. Rhiannon Martin and Amanda Waymire finished with a home run each with Martin finishing with 4 RBI. Velilla, Anna McLaughlin and Megan White added a double each while McLaughlin, Enright and White finished with 2 RBI each.
Benedictine 9, Friends 1 - 5 innings
Benedictine remained hot a the plate in game one of the doubleheader with Friends on Sunday, using 13 hits to score its 9 runs.
Selvage earned the win inside the circle, recording a complete game scattering 1 earned run off 3 hits over 5 innings.
The Ravens finished with three home runs at the plate as Velilla, Kaleigh Small and Enright hit a home run each. Ashley Rindowm and Gaitley added a double each while Gaitley and Velilla finished with 2 RBI each.
Friends 3, Benedictine 1
The Falcons scored 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn the 2-run win over the Ravens to close out the weekend.
Gaitley and Waymire finished with a double each at the plate while Abby Reynolds scored the Ravens lone run.
Lily SinghDhillon suffered the loss, throwing 5.2 innings before Conrad finished off the game.
Benedictine returns home on Saturday to host a doubleheader at 1 p.m. with No. 8 Central Methodist University.
