PARKVILLE, Mo. – Benedictine Women's Basketball turned a 4-point halftime lead into a 21-point win over Park University on Wednesday night.
The Ravens improved its winning streak to 5 games as they shot 57.8 percent from the floor in the second half en route to the 71-50 win over the Pirates.
A slow start to the game saw the Ravens trail by two points headed into the second quarter. Riley Bruggeman pulled the Ravens even with the Pirates inside the first 30 seconds of the quarter. The two teams played through 6 ties and 6 lead changes before a par of free throws with just under 2 minutes left in the half by Kelli Storck gave the Ravens a 26-25 lead.
Benedictine never gave that lead back. After leading 31-27 at the half, the Ravens lead dropped to a point with a quick 3 points from the Pirates to start the second half. The Ravens followed that with a 11-2 run to open the game up midway through the third quarter. A pair of 3-pointers from Kyla Fitzgerald and Hattie Gross stretched Benedictine's lead to 13 – their largest of the game at the point – before they went to the fourth quarter with a 12-point lead.
The Ravens finished with 5 players in double figures, led by Kelli Storck with 17 points. Bruggeman finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Oen Deters, Gros and Fitzgerald finished with 10 points each.
Benedictine closes out the week with another road trip, traveling to Peru, Neb., to take on Peru State College at 2 p.m. Saturday. Benedictine took the first meeting with the Bobcats at home back on Jan. 7, 80-74.
