PARKVILLE, Mo. – Park University was able to keep Benedictine Men's Basketball at arm's length most of the night on Wednesday en route to a 82-69 win over the Ravens.
After falling behind early, Benedictine battled back to take their first lead of the night on a 3-pointer from Brycen LaRue just inside 7 minutes into the game. The Ravens held the lead for roughly 4 minutes near the midpoint of the half before Park regained the lead with 9:30 left before half.
Benedictine pulled even 90 second later on a tip-in from Aiden Sullivan before Park answered with a 10-run to distance themselves from the Ravens down the stretch. A pair of 3-pointers from Jack Vander Woude and LaRue pulled the Ravens back within single digits before the Pirates were able to pull back out by 11 points at the half.
Preston Reynolds and LaRue combined to score the first 11 points of the second half to pull Benedictine with 6 points inside the first four minutes of the half. That was all the closer they cut down the Pirates' lead before Park answered with a 9-0 run to pull back to a double-figure lead.
LaRue capped off his night with 2:11 remaining to push his total to 19 points, allowing him to surpassing the 1,000-point career scoring mark at Benedictine.
Reynolds joined LaRue in double figures with 13 points while Vander Woude added 9.
Benedictine remains on the road Saturday, traveling to Peru, Neb., to take on Peru State College at 4 p.m.
