(2) Women's Lacrosse moves to 4-0 in the Heart with 26-4 win over (RV) Ottawa

OTTAWA – After earning a 26-1 non-conference win at home over Ottawa University back on Feb. 22, the No. 2-ranked Benedictine Women's Lacrosse team hit the road on Wednesday for the conference meeting between the two long-time opponents.

Benedictine earned the sweep over (RV) Ottawa as they earned a 26-4 win over the Braves to move to 4-0 in the Heart.

The Braves scored the first goal of the game in the first 21 seconds. Chanterra Allen answered that goal with three straight, and the Ravens were off and running. Benedictine finished the quarter with a 10-1 lead, and Lile Chekas scored 27 seconds into the second quarter to kick in the running clock. 

Mackenna Hill scored 30 seconds left in the second quarter to give Benedictine a 20-1 lead at the half. 

The Ravens opened the half with 3 more goals before the Braves added their second and finished off the game outscoring Ottawa 7-3 in the second half.

Allen led the Ravens with 9 points, scoring 7 goals with 2 assists. All 7 goals helped fuel the Ravens advantage in the first half. Kaylen Moore finished with 7 points (4 goals, 3 assists) and was joined by Lorelei Siegel and Hill with 4 goals. Chekas finished the game with 3 goals, followed by Margaux Gelbach with 2. Emma Rushing and Christien Michaelides added 1 goal each. Siegel and Gelbach followed Allen and Moore with 2 each, while Chekas and Hill added 1 assist each.

Moore led the Ravens with 6 draw controls, followed by Hill with 5 as the Ravens finished with 21 total. Sloane Poindexter and Moore led the Ravens with 2 caused turnovers each as the Braves committed 12.

Molly Owen earned the win in goal, playing the first 30 minutes before giving way to Monica Klecan and Margaret Ritson. Ritson finished with 4 saves, followed by Owen with 2 and Klecan with 1.

Benedictine remains on the road Saturday, traveling to St. Louis, Mo., for a battle of NAIA-ranked opponents as they take on No. 8 Missouri Baptist University. The game between the Ravens and the Spartans has been selected as the Heart Conference Network Game of the Week and is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
