(2) Women's Lacrosse earns Heart win over (8) Missouri Baptist

ST. LOUIS – After trailing 4-3 to No. 8 Missouri Baptist University on Saturday afternoon, No. 2 Benedictine Women's Lacrosse outscored the Spartans 13-5 over the final 45 minutes of the game to earn an 18-9 win.

Benedictine found the back of the net first on back-to-back goals from Chanterra Allen and Kaylen Moore. The Spartans countered with three straight before the teams traded goals to send Missouri Baptist to the second quarter with a 4-3 lead over Benedictine.

The Spartans extended their advantage to two goals, scoring with just under 14 minutes left in the second quarter. The Ravens answered that goal with 6 straight. Kiera Russell started the Ravens rally while Alexa Hildenbrand tied the game at 5. Kiera Russell gave the Ravens back the lead before Moore sandwiched two goals around a third from Allen to send the Ravens into the half with a 9-5 lead.

Like the second quarter, the Spartans struck first out of the halftime break. And like the second quarter, Benedictine answered. Moore scored first, followed by three straight from Allen to give the Ravens a 13-6 lead. Moore and Russell capped off the quarter with two straight to give Benedictine a 15-7 lead with the fourth quarter remaining.

Just five goals were scored in the fourth quarter. Missouri Baptist struck first, allowed by goals from Moore, Lile Chekas, and Allen to give the Ravens an 18-8 lead. The Spartans scored with 27 seconds remaining to close the Ravens lead down to single digits.

Molly Owen went the distance in goal for the Ravens, She finished with 13 saves – two off her career high.

Moore led the Ravens with 7 goals, followed by Allen with 6, Russell with 3, and Hildenbrand and Chekas with 1 each. Allen added 2 assists, followed by Moore and Russell with 1 assist each.

Moore finished the game with 6 draw controls, followed by Mackenna Hill with 5. Russell and Owen led the Ravens with 4 ground balls each. 

Ainsley Willingham led the Ravens with 3 caused turnovers, while Moore and Russell finished with 2 each. The Spartans finished with 16 turnovers, 13 of which were caused by the Ravens. 

Benedictine returns home for their last home game of the regular season on Monday, hosting Culver-Stockton College at 4 p.m.
