Women's Basketball used a dominant second half to pick up a home win Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens defeated the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats, 68-49, avenging an earlier loss to the Wildcats and capping off Senior Day in Atchison.
After trailing by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, the Ravens stormed back to tie the game, 40-40, heading into the fourth quarter. It wasn't until the final seconds of the period when the Ravens leveled the score as Lauryn Dubbert's runner off the glass tied the game.
The Ravens outscored the Wildcats 18-11 in the third quarter. The defense helped the Ravens get going as they forced 7 C-SC turnovers in the third quarter, turning those into 6 points.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Ravens, and specifically Josie Weishaar. The senior knocked down six 3-pointers to help turn a 40-40 tie into a 19-point win.
Weishaar started off the third quarter with a 3-pointer to put the Ravens in front. The Wildcats answered with a pair of 3-pointers to take back the lead, but the Ravens closed out the final 8 minutes of the game on a 25-3 run. After shooting just 2-of-17 from 3-point range in the first three quarters, the Ravens knocked in 7-10 in the fourth quarter to turn a tight game into a blowout.
Weishaar matched a career high with 27 points and set a new career high with seven made 3-pointers. She also had 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Dubbert scored 13 points and had 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
Jennifer Jacobs nearly recorded a double-double, scoring 8 points to go with 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Nicole Storck scored 10 points and 7 boards to add a boost off the bench.
The first half wasn't kind to the Ravens shooters as they shot 32% from the field and just 1-of-11 from 3-point range. Dubbert's 3-pointer with just 2 minutes left in the opening half was the only Ravens bucket from distance in the first half.
The Ravens defense made the Wildcats struggle offensively, as well. The visitors shot 35% from the field and knocked in 3-15 from long range. It was the Wildcats, though, who took a 29-22 lead into the halftime break. The Ravens battled back to tie it in the third quarter and then blew the game open in the fourth quarter.
The (RV) Ravens (20-4, 17-3 Heart) will hit the road for their next three games, starting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Missouri Valley College.
