CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Benedictine Women's Basketball earned a 63-60 win over Mount Mercy University on Saturday in the middle game of a three-game road swing.
Trailing by a point headed into the fourth quarter, the Ravens outscored the Mustangs 17-13 to earn the win, and the regular-season sweep over the Mustangs.
After playing to a tie at 14 after the first quarter, Riley Wade gave the Ravens an early lead in the second quarter before the game tied back up at 19 inside the first four minutes of the quarter. Mount Mercy took the lead with 6 minutes remaining and held that lead through the end of the half.
Riley Bruggeman gave the Ravens their first lead of the second half with just under 3 minutes remaining in the third quarter before the Mustangs answered. Wade and Bruggeman combined on the final 4 points of the quarter as the lead changed hands five times over the final 2:40, setting the stage for the fourth quarter.
Mount Mercy jumped out to a 7-point lead in the first 5 minutes of the fourth quarter before Benedictine held the Mustangs to just 5 points over the final 90 seconds of the game.
Josie Weishaar kickstarted the comeback with a 3-pointer, followed by another 3-pointer from Lauryn Dubbert. Benedictine hit five 3-pointers down the stretch, which included four straight from Kennedy Nicholson to seal the win for the Ravens.
Weishaar and Wade led the Ravens with 11 points each while Dubbert finished with 10. The Ravens finished the game hitting 11 of 14 at the charity stripe while they held a 17-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
Benedictine wraps up the three-game road swing at 6 p.m. Monday when they play the makeup game in Des Moines, Iowa, against (RV) Grand View University. They return home for a 5:30 p.m. game on Wednesday with Park University.
