Men's Basketball narrowly lost a home game Wednesday night.
The Ravens nearly overcame a 19-point second-half deficit, losing 77-73 to the (RV) MidAmerica Nazarene University Pioneers.
After trailing 5 points at halftime, the Ravens struggled to start the second half. The high-scoring Pioneers entered the night averaging 86.4 points per game and showed why, racing out to a 67-48 lead midway through the second half.
The Ravens had an answer in a big way, ripping off a 22-4 run to trim the Pioneers lead to 71-70 with 28 seconds to play. After both teams made free throws in the closing seconds, the Ravens found themselves down by 3 points with 5 seconds left and
Brycen LaRue at the free throw line. LaRue knocked in the first free throw, then purposefully missed the second, grabbed the rebound and hit a floater that would have tied the game, but the officials whistled the play dead for a lane violation on the free throw. Two more frees by MNU put the final touches on the game.
Deaglan Sullivan led the Ravens with 18 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Jack Vander Woude had 17 points,
Drew Purdy added 12 points and 3 blocks, and LaRue scored 9 points.
Both teams shot the ball well in the opening half as the Pioneers took a 41-36 lead into the break.
Vander Woude and Purdy both scored 8 points in the opening half to pace the Ravens.
Uriah Boutte scored 18 points in the first half, hitting four 3-pointers. The Ravens held Boutte to 4 points in the second half.
The Ravens (3-3, 1-1 Heart) will travel to Canton, Mo., for a 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 game at Culver-Stockton College.
