Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Culver-Stockton holds off fourth-quarter comeback from (RV) Women's Basketball for OT upset

CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College held (RV) Benedictine Women's Basketball to 4 points in overtime on Monday night as the Wildcats knocked off the Ravens 64-61.

The Ravens used a 12-1 run in the third quarter to erase a 5-point halftime deficit and then needed back-to-back 3-pointers to erase a 6-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

Culver-Stockton took control of the game midway through the first quarter, breaking a 7-7 tie to pull ahead by as much as 6 points before a pair of layups from Nicole Storck and Lauryn Dubbert send the Ravens into the second quarter trailing by 1.

The second quarter was the lowest-scoring regular period of the game as the two teams combined for 18 points. Riley Wade scored 5 points straight giving the Ravens the lead for the first time since the first 5 minutes of the game.

After trading the lead three times, a last-second 3-pointer sent Culver-Stockton into the halftime up by 5.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 10 points twice in the third quarter before Benedictine went on their run. Jennifer Jacobs started the run that was capped off by a 3-pointer from Kennedy Nicholson that gave the Ravens a 39-37 lead with just over three minutes left in the quarter. The Ravens outscored the Wildcats by 8 points in the third quarter to take a 45-42 lead into the fourth quarter.

Baskets from Storck and Dubbert pushed Benedictine's lead to 49-44 before they went cold offensively. The cold spell from the Ravens allowed the Wildcats to regain the lead as they went on an 11-0 run before back-to-back 3-pointers from Josie Weishaar allowed the Ravens to erase a 6-point deficit and send the game into overtime.

Weishaar made the Ravens only field goal in overtime before the Wildcats held the Ravens without a field goal over the final 3:36 of overtime to earn a 3-point upset.

Four Ravens finished in double figures led by Weishaar with 13. Nicholson finished with 12, Dubbert scored 11 while Storck finished with 10 off the bench.

Benedictine returns home on Wednesday as they begin the second half of Heart play with a 5:30 p.m. game with Peru State College. The Ravens earned a 77-67 win over the Bobcats in Peru, Neb., on Nov. 13.
