KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Benedictine Women's Basketball earned a 4-point exhibition win over NCAA Div. II Rockhurst University on Saturday night.
The Ravens controlled the point, holding a 32-26 advantage in scoring in the paint, en route to an 86-82 win over the Hawks.
Benedictine led by as much as 20 points in the third quarter, 63-43, when Jennifer Jacobs scored on a layup. By the end of the third quarter, the Ravens lead stood at 14 before Rockhurst scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to their deficit to single digits late in the quarter.
Rockhurst led 5-2 before Benedictine responded with a 9-0 run to erase that deficit and pull in front 12-5 on a 3-pointer from Josie Weishaar. After taking a 2-point lead into the second quarter, the Ravens gave up the lead on Hawks' first basket of the second quarter before outscoring Rockhurst 15-3 to pull ahead by 10 before taking a 13-point lead into halftime. The Ravens connected on 50 percent from the floor in the second quarter with 4 3-pointers while holding Rockhurst to 35.3 percent from the floor with 2 3-pointers.
Both teams matched each other with a 50 percent shooting effort in the third quarter while both converting 3 3-pointers which allowed Benedictine to maintain a double-digit lead throughout the quarter.
Weishaar scored a game-high 32 points as four Ravens finished in double digits. Kennedy Nicholson added 17 points while Lauryn Dubbert added 14. Riley Bruggeman added 12 points off the bench to round out the Ravens top scorers.
Benedictine finished with a 49-29 advantage in rebounds as they pulled in 18 offensive rebounds that led to a 13-4 advantage in second-chance points.
The Ravens remain on the road Wednesday, opening up Heart play in Peru, Neb., against Peru State College at 5:30 p.m.
