PERU, Neb. – After battling through a fourth-quarter scoreless drought (RV) Benedictine Women's Basketball closed out its Heart opener by outscoring Peru State 15-2 over the last three minutes of the game on Wednesday night en route to a 77-67 win.
After pulling ahead by as much as 8 points in the fourth quarter, the Ravens found themselves looking up at the Bobcats on the scoreboard after the first quarter, The two teams played to a 15-all tie during the second quarter that allowed Peru State to take a 33-31 lead into halftime.
The Ravens trailed through the first six minutes of the third quarter before a 3-pointer from Kennedy Nicholson and a pair of baskets from Lauryn Dubbert put the Ravens up 48-44. The Ravens went inside to regain the lead from the Bobcats in the third quarter, finishing the quarter with a 10-4 advantage in points in the paint.
Benedictine remained in the lead until the midpoint of the fourth quarter when Peru State tied the game at 62. A second straight 3-pointer pushed the Bobcats ahead by 3 points before Benedictine went on their offensive run to take command of the game over the final three minutes of play.
The Ravens finished the game shooting 44.4 percent from the floor and 13 of 15 at the free-throw line. Dubbert finished with a game-high 23 points, scoring 21 points in the second half. Josie Weishaar added 18 points, hitting 4 of the Ravens' 8 3-pointers. Nicholson added 12 points with 2 3-pointers, while Jennifer Jacobs added 10 points.
Benedictine finished with a 32-22 in points in the paint while scoring 11 points off turners.
The Ravens remain on the road for their second Heart game of the season, traveling to Fayette, Mo., a week from tonight to take on Central Methodist University.
