QUINCY, Ill. – Men's Lacrosse played their final tuneup for conference play on Thursday as they stepped out to play NCAA Div. II Adams State University on the campus of Quincy University.
The Grizzlies battled back with a 5-goal fourth quarter but couldn't push through as the Ravens earned an 11-10 win to move back to .500 on the season.
Adams State started the scoring with 13:29 remaining in the first quarter before Benedictine scored its first two goals. Jordan Rodriguez tied the game up midway through the quarter and less than a minute later Paul Gordon gave the Ravens the lead off an assist from Joseph Bianchi.
The Grizzlies pulled even with a second first-quarter goal before Rodriguez gave the Ravens back the lead with 46 seconds remaining in the quarter. Adams State's third goal was matched by a 3-0 run from Benedictine that allowed them to pull ahead 7-4 at the half. The Grizzlies also started the third quarter scoring but had that goal matched by four straight goals from Benedictine that put the Ravens up 11-6 headed into the fourth.
Rodriguez led the Ravens with 4 goals. Gordon and Joey Calabria scored 3 goals each while James Carson added 1 goal. Mac Postel Jr. led the Ravens with 2 assists while Ty Beyer, Calabria, and Gordon joined Bianchi with 1 assist each.
Bianchi helped the Ravens control possession throughout the game. He finished winning 20 of 22 faceoffs with 11 groundballs.
Benedictine finished with 13 caused turnovers as Adams State committed 26. Davis McMullen and Drew Doran led the defensive effort with 3 caused turnovers each while Luke Besheer added 2.
Jacob Clipperton went the distance in goal, finishing with 5 saves.
Benedictine opens up Heart play on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Missouri Valley College.
