Volleyball returned to the win column by snapping a two-match skid Friday night at home.
The Ravens beat the Peru State Bobcats 3-0 after losing their previous two matches.
The Ravens and Bobcats couldn't have played a more closely contested opening set. Peru took an early 4-0 lead, but the Ravens answered to take a 13-10 lead. Neither team would lead by more than 3 at any point the remainder of the set.
After a pair of aces by Marissa Mantz, the Ravens looked like they'd go ahead 24-20 on a block, but it bounced off a Bobcat player and back to the Ravens side, falling innocently to the court. That sparked a 4-0 run for Peru to give the visitors a 24-23 lead.
Facing set point, the Ravens didn't falter. They battled back and won the set on Maggie Schoening's kill, 27-25, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set wasn't quite as tight as the first, but it was a 25-17 win for the Ravens.
The home squad took an early 8-3 lead and controlled the proceedings the rest of the set. The Ravens went up 21-12 and cruised to the win to go up 2-0 in the match.
The Ravens closed out the win in dominant fashion in the third set, though it didn't start that way. The teams traded points early in the third, but the Ravens turned an 8-8 tie into a 25-12 win, earning the three-set sweep against the Bobcats.
The Ravens finished with a .257 attack percentage on the night and were led in kills by Mary Pat Taylor and Maura Lickteig, who each had 8. Regan Bruggeman, Maggie Schoening and Joslyn Lewis had 7 kills, each. Taylor added 7 digs while Lickteig had 4 blocks and Lewis added 3 blocks. Mantz had 18 assists and 6 digs.
The Ravens (10-5, 4-2 Heart) return to Ralph Nolan Gym at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 when they'll host Graceland University.
