Women's Basketball falls to Clarke University 67-60

The No. 22-ranked Raven Women's Basketball team battled back from a 10-point third quarter deficit to Clarke University on Saturday before the Pride where able to come back to life offensively and earn the 67-60 win over the Ravens.

Benedictine (5-5,2-4 Heart) held Clarke (7-3, 3-2 Heart) under their season average for offensive rebounds and limited them to just nine second-chance points but the Pride where able to take advantage of 26 Raven turnovers that led directly to 15 points in the seven-point win.

The Ravens turned an 11-11 tie late in the first quarter into a nine point avantage midway through the second quarter as they outscored the Pride 11-2 over a seven minute stretch. Clarke was able to erase their deficit and held Benedictine scoreless over the final five minutes of the half to take a 32-27 lead into halftime.

A 3-pointer from Grace Brzozowski and a basket from Kayla Staley erased the Ravens halftime deficit and pull the game into its fifth tie inside the first three minutes of the third quarter. Clarke answered with a 10-0 to pull ahead by as much as 10 points before Benedictine answered with a 15-2 run to close out the quarter and take a 47-44 lead into the final 10 minutes of the game.

Benedictine maintained their lead throughout the first six minutes of the fourth quarter before Clarke tied the game at 57-57. Even with that, the Ravens were able to pull back in front on a 3-pointer from Rachael Baumgartner. Clarke tied it again at 60-60 with a pair of free throws with just over two minutes left to play and then held the Ravens scoreless over the rest of the game to earn the seven-point win.

The Ravens won the battle on the boards, outrebounding Clarke 44-39. Benedictine pulled in 18 offensive rebounds that led to 13 points as the Ravens finished the game with a 13-9 advantage on second-chance points. They also finished the game with a 10-point advantage off the bench as Benedictine outscored Clarke 22-12.

Staley finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Ravens while Baumgartner finished with 10.

Benedictine is off until Dec. 15 when they travel to Lamoni, Iowa, to take on Graceland University.
