Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball opens home schedule with win

The Raven men's basketball team returned to the home floor at the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium after falling in their season opener last week.

Benedictine (1-1) walked off the Nolan floor with a 66-63 win over Tabor College (0-3) capitalizing on 32 points off 18 Bluejay turnovers.

After going back and forth for much of the first half, Benedictine pulled away late to hold a 33-29 lead over Tabor at the half.

In the second half, the Ravens turned up the defensive intensity which led to an offensive run in which Benedictine outscored Tabor 17-7 to pull ahead by as much as 16 points.

Tabor gradually started to chip away at the Ravens lead over the final 10 minutes of the game but couldn't pull any closer than three points.

Benedictine went scoreless over the final two minutes of the game but with 17 seconds remaining and Tabor inbounding the ball with a chance to tie the game and send it into overtime, the Raven defense stepped up and didn't allow the Bluejays to get a shot off forcing a turnover as time expired.

The Ravens finished with three players in double figures on the night, led by the game-high 18 point effort of Jonathan Anaekwe (Soph., Shawnee). Anaekwe hit 50 percent from the floor and went 6 of 8 from the charity stripe to lead the Ravens offense.

Charlie Wallrapp (Jr., Omaha) added 13 points while John Harris Jr. (Fr., Lincoln, Neb.) added 10 points.

Benedictine held the advantage in points in the paint, outscoring Tabor 26-12 and held a commanding advantage in points off turnovers, 32-13.

Tabor was led by the 18 points of Chance LeBlanc.

The Ravens remain at home as they host Park University on Saturday evening at 5 p.m.
