Shawn Schnabel

Shawn Schnabel enters his second year as the tight ends coach and academic coordinator at Benedictine College. In his debut season guiding the Raven tight ends, Schnabel mentored Tanner Zimmerman to All-American and All-Conference honors for the second consecutive year, while fellow tight end Tyler Watson also captured All-Conference recognition.

Schnabel arrived at Benedictine following a two-season stint at Arkansas Tech University from 2023-2024, where he served as the offensive line coach, run game coordinator, and recruiting coordinator. Under his guidance, the Wonder Boys' offense saw significant improvements including 18.5 more total rushing yards per game, nearly 30 more total offensive yards per game, and 9 fewer sacks allowed over the course of the season. Two of Schnabel’s offensive linemen earned All-Conference recognition.

From 2020 to 2022, Schnabel was the offensive coordinator, offensive line coach, and recruiting coordinator for the Missouri Baptist University Spartans, where he developed three All-Conference performers. Significant improvements in offensive production were made in the seasons that followed Schnabel’s 2020 debut with the Spartans.

Previously, Schnabel spent seven seasons in a variety of roles at Black Hills State University. Joining the staff in 2013 as a graduate assistant, he was promoted to full-time offensive line coach in 2014, added recruiting coordinator duties in 2016, and was named run game coordinator in 2019. His front five paved the way for record-breaking individual rushing performances, setting the Yellow Jackets' single-game, single-season, and career rushing records. In 2014, his offensive line helped the Yellow Jacket offense set the single season total yardage record at BHSU.

Schnabel began his coaching career in 2010 at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre, South Dakota, where he spent three years as a science teacher, football coach, and strength and conditioning coach.

As a player, Schnabel was an offensive lineman and a three-time NAIA National Champion (2006, 2008, 2009) at the University of Sioux Falls. During his four-year career, the Cougars put together a 56-1 record, with the lone defeat occurring in the 2007 national title game. Schnabel twice earned NAIA Academic All-American honors.

Schnabel resides in Atchison with his wife Whitney, an elementary school teacher, and their three sons: Owen, Jack, and Mason.
