Patrick Hodapp

Patrick Hodapp

Patrick Hodapp came to Benedictine College as an assistant athletic trainer in 2003 and was promoted to the Head Athletic Trainer position the following year. Patrick was promoted to the Director of Sports Medicine position at Benedictine in the Spring of 2021. He will be serving his 20th year at Benedictine College during 2023-2024 Academic year.

Before coming to Benedictine College, he completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Kansas. As an undergraduate student, Patrick completed an internship with the Kansas City Chiefs NFL team during the 1998 and 1999 seasons. Following completion of his internship at the Chiefs, he took on an athletic training position with the Kansas City Wizards MLS team in 2000 during their championship season. He returned to the Wizards for the 2001- 2003 seasons.

Patrick was awarded the Heart of America Conference Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2017 and 2020.  He was also awarded the Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine’s National Head Athletic Trainer of the Year for the NAIA in 2020. Patrick was awarded the Benedictine College Presidents Medal in 2023 for his work navigating Athletics and the College through the COVID pandemic. Patrick served as the Vice President of the Heart of America conference’s athletic training board from 2014-2018 and President of the Heart of America Athletic Trainers from 2018-2022. He also served on the NAIA-ATA Board from 2018-2022 and the NAIA-ATA Championship Committee from 2018-present.

As the Director of Sports Medicine, Patrick is responsible for the overall well-being of the student-athletes. Patrick has successfully grown the Benedictine College athletic training staff from just 2 athletic trainers to now 7 full-time and continues to expand the services and capabilities of Benedictine College Athletics for its student-athletes.

Patrick also assists in the Health, Wellness, and Exercise Science (HWES) Department at Benedictine as a part-time faculty member and teaches Pharmacology, Therapeutics Modalities, and student practical labs. In addition, Patrick serves as a preceptor to the University of Saint Mary’s Athletic Training Master’s program interns who complete their clinical rotations at Benedictine College.  Patrick’s focus remains on the education, prevention, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of more than 850 student-athletes at Benedictine College.

Patrick happily resides in Atchison with his wife Lindsay, daughter Lilly, and their many animals.  Patrick enjoys his many hobbies and continues to expand his education to better serve the Benedictine College Athletics department coaches and student-athletes.
