(RV) Men's Lacrosse opens season with record-breaking score effort

OTTAWA – Benedictine Men's Lacrosse opened up the 2026 season on Saturday with a record-breaking result as they took on Ottawa University in a non-conference game on the road.

The Ravens secured a 31-0 win to open the season and set the new program record for single-game team goals. The previous record was 28, and was set last season in a 28-7 win over Midland University.

Benedictine jumped out to a 11-0 lead after the first quarter as Joey Calabria got the Ravens scoring started 39 seconds into the game. Calabria finished the first quarter scoring two more times as 8 Ravens scored in the opening quarter for Benedictine.

The Ravens finished the game with a 72 shots – tying the program record for there most ever.

Calabria led the Ravens with 6 goals, followed Mason Eberle with 4. Ian Madden, Jonah Salem, Trent Harder and John Paul Torgersen added 3 goals each. Keegan Lindsey scored 2 goals, while Jacob Meyer, Malcom Castronova, Aiden Abalos, Luke Reger, Harry Milligan, Luke Reinheimer and Jacob Schlick added 1 goal each. Eberle finished with 3 assists, followed by Madden, Harder, Milligan, Torgersen added 2 assists each while Reinheimer added one.

Max Thomason and Camden Chambers shared time inside the face-off circle. Thomas went 14 of 20 while Chambers went 13 of 16. Defensively Reed Martin and Liam Halisky led the Ravens with 3 caused turnovers each while Chambers finished with 8 ground balls. Thomason and Eberle finished with 4 ground balls each. CJ Besuzzi earned the win in goal for the Ravens, playing the first half. He finished with 4 saves before Victor Granchelli added 1 save in the second half.

After hosting the University of Kansas Club team on Feb. 25, the Ravens next countable contest isn't until March 3, when they host a non-conference game against Missouri Valley College at 4 p.m. on Legacy Field.
