QUINCY, Ill. – Top-ranked Benedictine Women's Lacrosse opened up the season on Sunday with a trip to take on NCAA Div. II Quincy University.
After trailing 9-4 at the half, Benedictine woke up offensively in the third and fourth quarter to force overtime where they earned a 16-15 win.
Kaylen Moore forced overtime with the equalizer with 27 seconds remaining in regulation as Benedictine outscored Quincy 11-6 in the second half. Lorelei Siegel capped off the comeback with 2:11 remaining in overtime to give the Ravens the win.
Moore led the Ravens with 6 goals while Sigel added 5. Mackenna Hill scored 2 goals while Kiera Russell, Lile Chekas and Izzie Venarsky scored 1 goal each. Alexa Hildenbrand recorded 2 assists while Maylen Smith added a third to round out the Ravens offensive efforts.
Moore finished with 10 draw controls. She was matched with 2 caused turnovers by Victoria Majden. Molly Owen recorded just under 64 minutes in goal for the Ravens, finishing with 10 saves that included 2 saves in overtime to help keep the game knotted at 15.
Benedictine remains on the road Feb. 21, traveling to Ottawa University for a 1 p.m. non-conference game against the Braves.
