Benedictine Women's Soccer celebrated Senior Night in impressive fashion on Saturday on Legacy Field, scoring 6 second-half goals en route to a 6-0 win over William Penn University.
While the program's Senior members were honored prior to the game, the night was capped off with a pair of goals from two Seniors as the Ravens turned a scoreless draw at the break into their top scoring performance of the season.
Mara Loughman and Lucia Smith scored the Ravens final two goals of the match, with Loughman scoring on a penalty kick after being fouled just inside the box during the 79th minute. Smith put the icing on the Senior Night cake, sending a rocket shot past the Statesmen keeper from distance during the 86th minute.
Neither team could establish much of an offensive rhythm over the first 45 minutes of the match. Benedictine took a 5-2 advantage in shots into the intermission, but just couldn't push anything through as WPU keeper Emma Billings hit the break with 2 saves.
Not quite five minutes passed into the start of the second period when Benedictine ended the scoreless drought. Payton Vogelbacher scored off an assist from Isabel Agudelo during the 51st minute that opened the floodgates for the Ravens offense.
Just over 3 minutes later, Eva Andrews scored a header off a corner kick from Christine Znidarsic during the 54th minute. Rowan Yows scored on a cross from Vogelbacher during the 58th minute before Vogelbacher capped off a 12-minute stretch to open the half, scoring on a penalty kick during the 62nd minute.
Benedictine finished with a 15-4 advantage in shots while Madison Smith secured her second shutout of the week, registering two second-half saves in the win.
The Ravens will step out of Heart play one last time this season, traveling to Hesston, Kan., on Wednesday for a match with new NAIA program Hesston College.
