Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball earns sweep in non-conference match

Ravens Volleyball earned a three-set sweep at home on Tuesday night.
The Ravens defeated the Bethany College Swedes, 3-0, closing things out with an exciting third set.
The Ravens took a 1-0 lead in the match thanks to a pivotal moment in the first set. The Ravens trailed the Swedes 15-14, forcing a timeout by the home team. The message during the timeout was heard loud and clear – the Ravens responded with an 11-2 run to win the opening set, 25-17.
Barbara Terra had 9 kills in the opening set, leading the Ravens as they recorded a .355 attack percentage.
The Ravens took control right away in the second set, jumping out to a 4-0 lead and never trailing. The attack percentage dropped to .268 in the second set, but the Ravens still picked up a 25-16 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
JoJo Vander Woude and Lucy Drexel both had 4 kills in the set, Terra added 3 more kills to her total, and Kelly DeMeulenaere had 3 aces.
The third set proved to be a tougher win for the Ravens. They took an early 11-6 lead, but the Swedes answered and eventually took a 22-19 lead late in the set. The Ravens had their own answer, scoring 3-straight points to level the score at 22-22.
With the score tied at 24-24, Vander Woude's kill put the Ravens up by 1 point, then an attack error by the Swedes gave the Ravens the 26-24 win and a match sweep.
Terra had a team-high 15 kills, Drexel had 14 kills and Vander Woude finished with 10 kills. DeMeulenaere had 14 digs and 5 aces and Wren VanCleave had 38 assists. Candace Lenzen led the team with 5 block assists.
The Ravens (5-6) have won three-straight and will try to keep that streak alive at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 at home against Baker University in a return to Heart of America action.
