BALDWIN CITY – Aided by a 23 of 29 effort from the charity stripe, Baker University split the regular-season series with (RV) Benedictine Women's Basketball on Wednesday night.
The Wildcats were able to keep the Ravens at arm's length in the second half after playing to a tie at the break en route to an 81-73 win.
Benedictine erased a 6-point deficit after the first quarter with a 9-0 run to start the second quarter. Riley Rottinghaus got the rally started and Josie Weishaar capped it off with a 3-pointer to pull Benedictine in front, 24-23.
After Benedictine took the lead, the quarter played through four ties and 2 lead changes before heading to the half tied at 32.
Benedictine opened the third quarter with a basket from Jennifer Jacobs and then answered the first basket by the Wildcats with Weishaar's first 3-pointer of the second half.
Baker pulled ahead by as much as 5 points before the Ravens tied the game over the final 2 minutes twice on baskets from Riley Bruggeman and Weishaar before they eventually headed into the fourth quarter with a 5-point advantage.
The Wildcats scored 10 points from the charity stripe in the final 10 minutes of the game that helped them keep the Ravens at arm's length. Another 3-pointer from Weishaar pulled Benedictine within 3 points, 71-68 before the Wildcats used a 6-0 run to pull out by 9 before earning the 8-point win.
Weishaar scored a career-high 29 points with 5 3-pointers as she was one of three Ravens to reach double figures in the loss. Kennedy Nicholson finished with 16 while Jacobs added 15.
The Ravens wrap up the regular season at Noon on Saturday against (RV) Grand View University. Saturday's winner locks up the No. 2 seed in next week's Heart Women's Basketball Championships while the loser will drop to the No. 3 seed.
