FAYETTE, Mo. – Top-seeded Central Methodist University scored three unanswered second-half goals on Saturday to end Benedictine Women's Soccer postseason run in the Heart Championship Semifinals.
Leading 2-1 at the half, the Ravens were shutout in the second half as the Eagles scored three goals in a 13-minute span to earn a 4-2 win.
Central Methodist struck early, scoring during the 4th minute of play only to have Benedictine answer with goals three minutes apart.
The Ravens tied the game during the 22nd minute on a goal. From Ella Braunger and then took the lead during the 25th minute on a goal from Payton Vogelbacher off an assist from Lizzy Gresch.
Benedictine took that lead through the halftime break and into the 48th minute when CMU scored the equalizer before adding the go-ahead goal during the 51st and an insurance goal during the 61st minute.
Madison Smith finished the match with 7 saves in goal for the Ravens as Benedictine finished with a total of 6 shots with just 3 on goal.
The Ravens finish the Heart postseason with an overall record of 13-5-2. With the loss in the Heart Semifinals, the Ravens will not wait until Nov. 14 to learn if their win total is enough to earn an at-large berth into the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
