The NAIA Football Championship Series returns to O'Malley Field at Larry Wilcox Stadium for the first time since 2022 as (5) Benedictine hosts (12) Campbellsville (Ky.) in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
While Benedictine is making its 17th appearance in the FCS, this is just the fifth appearance for Campbellsville, and the Tigers first since 2015.
Benedictine's 17 FCS qualifications are the fourth-most of the 20-team field. Carroll (25), Morningside (21) and Saint Francis (Ind.) (21) are ahead of Benedictine. Campbellsville's five FCS qualifications is tied for third-least in this year's field.
This is Benedictine's first home game in the current 20-team format (only in year two), but marks the program's fifth "opening round" home game since 2000 – they are 3-2. This is Benedictine's 10th FCS appearance since 2000.
Half of Saturday's games are first-time match ups – Benedictine-Campbellsville, Marian-Dordt, Lindsey Wilson-Indiana Wesleyan, and College of Idaho-Morningside are all firsts in the schools' all-time series.
About Benedictine: Benedictine's Jackson Dooley's 33 passing TDs are 4th-best in the NAIA. He's added 2,805 yards and was not sacked in a Heart game. For his career, Dooley now has 9,471 passing yards breaking the Heart's career passing record of 9,095 that was held by Baker's Logan Bretell (2014-17). ... Xavier Ugorgi has come on as a top rushing threat for Benedictine since taking over as the starter in the third game of the season.
