Benedictine Men's Soccer earned a 4-2 upset win over (RV) Central Methodist University on Wednesday night, snapping an 8-match losing streak.
The Eagles struck first, scoring during the 11th minute. Benedictine answered with four unanswered to take control of the match before CMU scored late to give the Ravens a 2-goal win.
Eliah Froeyland hit the equalizer during the 27th minute, scoring on a free kick. Anthony Osorio gave the Ravens the lead during the 36th minute when he was able to push in a shot just inside the post that was sent it off a corner from Christian Lewis that was headed down by Sam Guiterrez. Both Lewis and Guiterrez were both credited with an assist on the goal.
The Ravens took a 1-goal advantage into the halftime and added their final goal of the match during the 59th minute. Kody Argaez was able to dribble through the Eagles' defense, into space and pushed his shot past CMU keeper Niccolo Cabras.
Benedictine's fourth goal was credited as an own-goal scored by CMU after an Eagles defender failed to clear the shot from Osorio during the 80th minute. Raven keeper Hernan Burdiles punted the ball out from his own box that bounced in front of Osorio. Osorio was able to beat Cabras, but before his shot reached the goal, a defender for CMU attempted a clear that bounced off the far post, back off the defender and into goal.
The Ravens finished with 11 shots on goal and finished with a 17-13 advantage in shots. Burdiles finished with 6 saves over 90 minutes in goal to earn the win.
