BELLVUE, Neb. – Benedictine Volleyball took to the road on Friday to participate in the annual GoSarpy.com Classic hosted by Bellevue University.
After running their streak to three straight with a 3-0 sweep over Dickinson State University in their first game, the Ravens dropped their second game to No. 12 Bellevue University 3-1.
Benedictine took the match over Dickinson State 25-19, 25-14, 25-15 hitting .300 en route to the sweep.
The Ravens finished with a balanced attack that finished the match with 45 kills. Hokulani Sagapolu and Mahala Sewell led the attack with 9 kills each. Regan Bruggeman and Winny Harris added 7 kills each while Maura Lickteig finished with 6.
Haley Cahill and Amber Allen anchored the offensive attack with Cahill tallying 17 assists with Allen adding 15.
Defensively, Sagapolu led the way with 14 digs. Kara Gagliano added 13 while Evelyn Arreola added 10. Harris finished with 3 block assists while Lickteig added 1 block assist and one solo block.
In their second match against the NAIA-ranked Bruins, the Ravens were limited on the attack. While Sagapolu led the attack with 11 and Bruggeman added another double-figure effort with 10, the Ravens finished the match hitting just 0.057 percent.
Cahill finished with 17 assists while Allen added 15 as the Ravens assisted on 34 of their 39 kills.
Arreola nearly recorded half of the Ravens total digs as she tallied 20. Sagapolu joined Cahill with 10 digs each to round out the defensive effort.
Benedictine will play four matches on Aug. 30 and 31 as they travel to Sioux City, Iowa, to take part in the Siouxland Invitational.
