(5) William Penn takes down (RV) Men's Lacrosse in Heart Tournament Championship Game

The No. 5-ranked William Penn University Statesmen earned the Heart of America Athletic Conference's automatic berth in the NAIA postseason on Saturday, beating Benedictine Men's Lacrosse in the Heart Tournament Championship game 17-13. 

William Penn won 11 of 14 face-offs in the fourth quarter as they controlled possession late into the game allowing them to launch their comeback for the win.

Benedictine led 10-7 headed into the fourth quarter before the momentum of the game shifted in favor of William Penn. William Penn scored five straight goals before the midpoint of the fourth quarter to take a 13-11 lead over the Ravens. 

Liam Waldron scored with just over 6 minutes remaining in the game to pull Benedictine back within a goal before William Penn added three straight to take control of the game with just over 4 minutes remaining.

The Ravens opened the game with goals from Jordan Rodriguez, Joseph Bianchi, and Joey Calabria. They took a 3-2 lead into the second quarter where the Statesmen matched the Ravens to send the game into halftime tied at 5.

After William Penn opened the third quarter with a goal, Benedictine scored five straight from Calabria, Rodriguez, Mac Postel Jr., Mason Eberle, and Charlie Louree to take a 10-6 lead with 26 seconds left in the quarter.

William Penn outscored Benedictine 10-3 in the fourth quarter to cap off their comeback and earn the win.

Rodriguez and Postel Jr. led the Ravens with 3 goals each. Calabria and Eberle finished with 2 goals each while Bianchi, Waldron, and Louree finished with 1 goal each. Rodriguez, Bianchi, Postel Jr., and Louree finished with 1 assist each.

CJ Besuzzi suffered the loss, finishing with 11 saves. Benedictine caused 15 of the Statesmen 28 turnovers. Carson Huerter led the way with 4, followed by Jack Northrup with 3 and Charley McGlinn with 2.

Postel Jr. finished with 6 ground balls, while Rodriguez and Huerter added 5 each. Bianchi went 6 of 12 on face-offs while Max Thomason went 4 of 21.

The Ravens currently sit at 11-5 overall and now wait to see if they have done enough to earn an at-large selection into the 8th Annual NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Invitational Tournament. The selections for the tournament will be announced at Noon on Monday.
