OLATHE – No. 24 MNU earned a 72-58 win over No., 23 Benedictine Women's Basketball on Saturday afternoon inside Bell Family Arena on the Pioneers' campus.
MNU limited Benedictine to just 18. 8 percent from the floor in the second quarter as they held a 19-9 advantage over the Ravens which allowed them to distance themselves by halftime with a 39-24 lead.
The Pioneers stormed out the gate in the third quarter outscoring the Ravens 12-0 over the first three minutes of the quarter.
Benedictine had its best quarter of the game in the fourth quarter, hitting 57 percent while holding MNU to just 2 of 7, but it wasn't enough to erase the Pioneers lead through three quarters. Benedictine finished the final 10 minutes of play with an 18-10 scoring advantage to drop the Heart Network Game of the Week by 14 points.
MNU entered play with the Ravens as the No. 2 3-point defense in the Heart. They lived up to that, holding Benedictine to just 27.8 percent from beyond the 3-point arc as the Ravens finished at 5 of 18.
Benedictine finished with a 37-25 advantage on the boards, extending its streak to seven straight games in which it has won the rebounding battle after finishing its season opener with the University of St. Mary in a tie.
Carmen Morales led the Ravens with 16 points off the bench, adding 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Kennedy Nicholson finished with 10 points while Josie Weishaar and Riley Bruggeman added 9 points each.
Benedictine returns home for a pair of games next week as they host Missouri Valley College on Wednesday and Mount Mercy University on Saturday. Next week marks the annual Christmas Joy Drive.
