DES MOINES – After dropping the first game of their doubleheader with (RV) Grand View University on Tuesday in extra innings, Softball earned a split with the Vikings taking game two.
Grand View earned a 2-1 win over Benedictine in 10 innings in the opener before Benedictine earned a 7-0 shutout win in game two for the split.
The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning while the Ravens were finally able to break through on the scoreboard in the seventh inning on a Megan Medhus single that scored Kassidy James. Grand View was able to earn the win on a walk-off single in the 10th off Benedictine's Abby Pressgrove to earn the win.
Pressgrove suffered the loss, giving up just one unearned run off three hits over 2 and two-thirds. She finished out the game in relief of Kera Willoughby, who threw the first 6 and two-thirds.
Ally Pickering was the only Raven with a multi-hit game in the opener, finishing 2 for 5 at the plate.
In game two, the Ravens exploded for 13 hits as they earned the shutout win.
Lacey Foster threw the first two innings, holding the Vikings scoreless off 4 hits with a strikeout. Foster was relieved by Bailey Selvege. Selvage threw the final 4 innings, holding the Vikings hitless with 4 strikeouts to earn the win.
All 14 of the Ravens hits at the plate were singles. Kassidy James led the way, going 3 for 4. Madison Zaccardo and Chloe Strickland went 2 for 4 while Natalie Sheffield went 2 for 3. Medhus finished with 2 RBI while Zaccardo, Clare Heitz, Strickland Rilee Bell, and Sheffield all added an RBI each.
Benedictine remains on the road Saturday for a doubleheader in Parkville, Mo., against Park University before returning to Ravens Field on Sunday to host a 1 p.m. doubleheader with Missouri Valley College.
