The Ravens took down the Baker University Wildcats 3-0, earning their 11th Heart win of the season.
The (RV) Ravens took a 1-0 lead in the match thanks to a 25-21 win in the opening set. The Wildcats took an early 10-7 lead, but the Ravens responded with an 11-2 run to go up 18-12 and seemingly take control of the set. Baker had its own answer, fighting back to tie the set at 21-21. A final Ravens flurry that included an ace by Marissa Mantz, a kill by Regan Bruggeman and a pair of kills by Mary Pat Taylor gave the Ravens the win.
A 25-18 win in the second set gave the Ravens a 2-0 lead in the match. The Ravens started out strong, taking a 13-8 lead, but the Wildcats clawed back to get within 2 points, 18-16. That's when the Ravens stepped up the intensity and closed the match on a 7-2 run to take a firm grip on the match.
In the Ravens win at Baker on Sept. 26, they won the first two sets before dropping the third set. That was not the case Saturday as the home squad came out on fire in the third set and dominated for a 25-16 win to earn the sweep.
The Ravens jumped out to a 10-3 lead and controlled the set 20-10. The Wildcats got a little closer at 23-16, but back-to-back kills by Lucy Drexel and Carolina Zapata gave the Ravens the set and match win.
Bruggeman had an impressive performance, leading the Ravens with 13 kills and a .800 hit percentage. Taylor had 9 kills and 3 aces, Maura Lickteig had 7 kills and 6 blocks, and Hokulani Sagapolu recorded 6 kills and 9 digs. Amber Allen led the way with 26 assists, Evelyn Arreola had 17 digs and 2 aces, and Mantz notched 3 aces.
The Ravens improve to 19-5 overall and 11-3 in Heart play. They will hit the road for their next match, a Tuesday, Oct. 24 tilt against No. 8 Park University.
