(25) Women's Soccer downs former Heart opponent Avila 5-1 on the road

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The day they moved to No. 25 in the first NAIA Coaches' Poll of the regular season, the Raven Women's Soccer team returned to action with a convincing road win over former conference opponent Avila University.

Benedictine picked up their second win of the season over a member of the KCAC with a 5-1 win over Avila on Wednesday night to move to 3-2 on the year.

Early in the day, the Ravens moved from their preseason ranking of No. 22 to No. 25 after starting the season off at 2-2.

At Avila on Wednesday night, it took the Ravens seconds to pull ahead of the Eagles as Annabelle Hoog scored a goal off assists from Madeline Stewart and Rachel Beffa during the 2nd minute of play.

Benedictine's next goal came during the 21st minute on the first of two in the game for Riley Degner. Degner scored off an assist from Kourtney Koc that the Eagles were able to answer during the 21st minute as well. Hailey White gave the Ravens a 3-1 advantage at the half, scoring an unassisted goal during the 33rd minute of play.

The Ravens finished the first half with a 23-2 advantage in shots, which included 12 shots on goal. They went on to finish the game with a 33-5 advantage in shots, totally 18 shots on goal.

Koc found Degner during the 74th minute for Degner's second goal and then Hannah Phillips added an 81st-minute goal off an assist from Christine Znidarsic to cap off the Ravens scoring efforts.

Olivia Berry recorded 2 saves in the win, playing all 90 minutes in goal. 

The Ravens return home on Saturday at 5 p.m. to take on Concordia (Neb.) University to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule. The match with the Bulldogs is the first of three straight on Legacy Field for the Ravens as they open up Heart play with matches against Park University on Sept. 14 and Evangel University on Sept. 17.
