Women's Lacrosse solidified its position in the NAIA National Tournament by winning the KCAC Championship Final Saturday morning.
The (6) Ravens defeated the (9) St. Ambrose University Fighting Bees 20-6 to win their fourth-straight KCAC Tournament Championship.
The Ravens defeated SAU 23-5 earlier this season but on Saturday the Fighting Bees stung first, winning the opening draw and then scoring to take a 1-0 lead. The Ravens answered with 7-straight goals to go up 7-1 before SAU scored their second goal. After one quarter of action, the Ravens held an 11-3 lead.
Like the first quarter, the Fighting Bees scored the opening goal of the second quarter. But – like the first quarter – the Ravens had a response, this time scoring 4 goals to take a 15-4 lead into the halftime break.
The Ravens outshot the Fighting Bees 24-14 in the first half and had 3 fewer turnovers. SAU did well on draw controls, recording just 3 fewer than the Ravens in an area the Ravens tend to dominate.
The Ravens added to their lead in the second half, ultimately winning by 14 goals. Natalie Wechter had a game-high 6 goals, while Aidan McEnerney and Erica Odell each scored 4 goals. Clare Ryan had 4 assists to lead the Ravens, and Odell, McEnerney, Grace Simonson, and Elizabeth Conley each had 2 assists.
Next up for the Ravens will be the NAIA Women's Lacrosse Championship, May 4-7, in Southfield, Michigan.
