Softball picks up Sunday split with No. 20 Morningside

The Raven Softball team picked up a home split Sunday afternoon.

The Ravens dropped Game 1 to the Morningside Mustangs, 6-1, before bouncing back to take Game 2, 10-3.

In the opening game, the Ravens struck first on a solo home run by Halley Rindom in the bottom of the second inning. That turned out to be the Ravens only run, though.

Conversely, the (20) Mustangs took advantage of some Ravens miscues in the third inning. After an error could have ended the inning with no damage, the Mustangs Morgan Nixon blasted a grand slam to put the visitors up 4-1. Defensive miscues led to 2 more runs for Morningside in the fourth inning and the Mustangs went on to win 6-1.

Jenna Drish pitched all 7 innings for the Ravens, striking out 3 batters. The Ravens tallied 5 hits, with Kassidy James, Clare Heitz, Kaitlyn Fanning, and Ally Pickering notching hits to go along with Rindom's homer.

The Ravens made 3 errors in the game.

The second game was nearly a complete opposite of the first. This time Morningside scratched a run across first only to see the Ravens put up the big inning. The Ravens scored 8 runs in the bottom of the second to take control of the game. They added 1 run in the third and another in the sixth to earn the 10-3 decision.

The Ravens recorded 7 hits in the game and took advantage of 5 Morningside errors in the win. Rindom had 2 hits, including a double, and 2 RBIs. Madison Zaccardo, Heitz, and Fanning also doubled for the Ravens.

MacKenzie Pinkerton earned the win, pitching 4 innings. Kera Willoughby closed out the game by giving up 0 runs in the final 3 innings of action.

With the split, the Ravens move to 6-2 on the season. They'll return to action at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 for a home doubleheader against Northwestern.
