Ravens Volleyball kept the momentum rolling on Friday night.
The Ravens topped the Missouri Valley College Vikings 3-1, their fourth-straight victory.
The teams traded points in the early moments of the first set, but the Ravens eventually grabbed control and took a 20-15 lead, forcing a timeout by the Vikings. MVC cut the Ravens lead to 2 points, but the Ravens quickly answered the call and won the set 25-19.
The Ravens overpowered the Vikings early in the second set to take a 9-3 lead and force an MVC timeout. Mary Pat Taylor had a pair of aces to help build the early lead.
The Vikings hung in there, though, cutting the Ravens early 8-point lead to just 3 points on a couple occasions, but the Ravens went on to win the set 25-20, taking a strong 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was hotly contested. The teams were tied 10-10, but the Vikings rattled off 3-straight points to force a Ravens timeout. MVC's lead swelled to 17-11 before the Ravens battled back. The home squad scored 7 points in a row to move ahead 18-17 and went up 21-18 to force a Vikings timeout. MVC came out of the timeout hot, scoring 5-straight points to go up 23-21, but the Ravens came right back and took a 25-24 lead. The Ravens couldn't find a match-winner, though, as the Vikings won the third set by the score of 27-25.
The lost third set broke a string of 6 consecutive set wins for the Ravens dating back to their win in the fifth set against Clarke on Oct. 9.
The Vikings rode the momentum of the third set win to take a 10-5 lead in the fourth set. That forced a timeout by Ravens Head Coach Victoria Hurtt, who took her team away from the bench to get her message across during the timeout.
The message was received; the Ravens went on a 10-2 run to go ahead 15-12 and stormed to a 25-20 win, taking the match 3-1.
Regan Bruggeman led the Ravens with 15 kills, Haylie Dickerson had 13 and Taylor had 11. Marea Wortmann had 6 kills while also adding 41 assists, 17 digs, and 3 aces.
The Ravens (13-10, 8-5 Heart) have won four matches in a row heading into a stiff test on Saturday afternoon. They'll host No. 10 Central Methodist University at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 in Atchison.
