Women's Basketball dominated from start to finish at home Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens took down the Mount Mercy University Mustangs 63-48 on Senior Day in Ralph Nolan Gym.
The tone was set early as the opening quarter couldn't have gone much better for the Ravens when they raced out to an 18-4 lead. The defense led the charge, forcing 12 Mount Mercy turnovers in the opening 10 minutes of play. That directly led to 8 points for the Ravens. Offensively in the opening quarter, the Ravens made their mark in the paint, scoring 10 points on inside looks.
The Ravens held a 24-9 lead at one point in the second quarter before the Mustangs started to find an offensive groove. With 1:47 before half, the Ravens lead was trimmed to 8 points, but the defense locked own MMU the rest of the half and took a 33-23 lead into halftime.
The Ravens converted 36 percent of their shots in the first half, with 8 assists on 13 made field goals. They forced 16 Mustangs turnovers.
Grace Brzozowski went on a personal 6-0 run to give the Ravens a 46-30 lead in the third quarter. The senior knocked down a 3-pointer, then was fouled on a basket, making the layup to give the Ravens a strong lead. They maintained that strong advantage through the remainder of the quarter, taking a 50-35 lead into the fourth.
The Ravens pushed their lead to as high as 23 points in the fourth quarter, allowing Chad Folsom to empty his bench and play everyone in uniform. The team was led by Skylar Washington's 13 points, while Brzozowski had 10 points and eight rebounds.
The team finished with a 34.7 shooting percentage from the floor, and had 47 rebounds, 17 of which were offensive. They forced 24 Mustangs turnovers in the game, with 16 points coming off of those turnovers. They also dominated in the paint, out-scoring the Mustangs 34-12 inside.
The win is the third in four games for the Ravens as they improve their record to 16-8, 10-8 in Heart of America play. They'll finish a three-game homestand Wednesday when they host Evangel University at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 12.
