Volleyball rally falls short against (RV) Ottawa at CMU Triangular

FAYETTE, Mo. – The Raven Volleyball team took part in their second triangular of the season on Saturday as they matched up with (14) Central Methodist University and (RV) Ottawa University at CMU.

After being swept by CMU, the Ravens rallied to push their match with Ottawa to five sets before the Braves held off the Ravens in set five to win 3-2.

Against CMU, the Ravens were limited to just 29 kills while hitting .186. Donetta Cage led the Ravens with seven kills while Aretha Victalino was close behind with six. Taea Kapels and Paxton Throne split time at setter with Kapels anchoring the attack with 12 of the Ravens 27 assists while Throne added 10.

Hannah Thomazin led the backline defensive effort with eight digs while Elizabeth Nobert finished with two block assists.

Against Ottawa, after the Braves won the first two sets, the Ravens rallied to take the next two sets by the score of 25-19 before Ottawa was able to pull out the win with a fifth set victory.

Three Ravens finished with double figures in kills as the team finished with 64. Fleur Wesselink led the attack with 20 while Sydney Wiedenmann added 12. Cage finished with 11 as the Ravens final hitter in double figures. Throne anchored the attack with 46 assists as the Ravens finished with a total of 5.

Thomazin led the backline with 22 digs while Throne added 11 as the Ravens finished with 55 total digs. Wiedenmann and Haylie Dickerson finished with a solo block each while Dickerson and Wesselink finished with a block assist.

The Ravens return home on Tuesday, hosting Baker University at 7 p.m.
