Culver-Stockton pulls away from Women's Basketball with 18-point fourth quarter

CANTON, Mo. – The (RV) Raven Women's Basketball team suffered their second straight loss on Saturday as Culver-Stockton College pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn a 12-point win.

Benedictine (18-10, 13-9 Heart) was held to just seven points in the fourth quarter as Culver-Stockton (16-11, 12-10 Heart) earned a 62-50 win.

After hitting 3 of 3 from beyond the arc in the first half, Culver-Stockton limited Benedictine to just one second-half 3-pointer while limiting the Ravens to just 28.6 percent from beyond the arc.

The Ravens used a 13-point second quarter to erase a two-point deficit after the first quarter and took a 25-23 lead into halftime. Defensively, the Ravens limited the Wildcats to just eight field goals in the first half while converting on 41.7 percent from the floor on their end of the floor.

Culver-Stockton scored the first basket of the second half maintained their lead for much of the of the third quarter. Ali Brzozowski gave the Ravens a 43-42 lead with 31 seconds left in the third quarter but that was the final lead of the game for the Ravens.

The Wildcats outscored the Ravens 18-7 in the fourth quarter to earn the win

Rachael Baumgartner and Skylar Washington led the Ravens in scoring with 11 each. Despite recording 26 turnovers, the Ravens held the advantage in points off turnovers, outscoring the Wildcats 18-12 as they were able to capitalize off 21 Wildcat turnovers. Kayla Staley finished with 10 rebounds to round out the Ravens efforts.

Benedictine is scheduled to host Peru State College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in their regular-season home finale. With two games remaining in the regular season, the Ravens hold a one-game lead over Clarke University in the Heart standings for fourth place. The Heart Postseason Tournament runs Feb. 25 through March 4. As it stands, the Ravens would host a tournament game on Feb. 27 in the quarterfinal found against the No. 5 seed.
