Women's Basketball rebounds with road win over Mount Mercy

CEDAR RAPIDS. Iowa – The No. 22-ranked Raven Women's Basketball team picked up their first Heart win of the seaon on Saturday on the road over Mount Mercy University (3-2, 0-2 Heart).

Benedictine (4-2, 1-1 Heart) erased a 10-point third quarter deficit against the Mustings to earn a 69-65 win.

Trailing 50-40 midway through the third quarter, Benedictine went on a 16-0 run stretching into the fourth quarter that not only erased their defict that pushed them in front, 56-50 with seven minutes left in the game.

Benedictine never gave back the lead pushing ahead by as much as eight before settling for the four-point win.

The Ravens finished the game with a 72.7 effort from the free throw line as they went 7 of 8 in the second half with all seven coming over the final four minutes of the game to help keep Benedictine in the lead. They also finished the game with a 49.1 percent shooting effort connecting on 15 field goals in the second half.

Three Ravens scored in double figures led by the 14 points of Natalie Smaron. Smaron connected on 6 of 6 from the floor with two free throws to lead Benedictine in scoring. Rachael Baumgartner finished with 12 points off five field goals while Skylar Washington added 11 off the bench as the Ravens picked up 34 points off their bench.

Benedictine returns home for a 5:30 p.m. game on Tuesday as they take on No. 12 MNU inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
