BALDWIN CITY – The No. 9-ranked Raven Women's Basketball team opened up the season on Friday night with a match up against Ottawa University in the Heart-KCAC Classic.
Benedictine (1-0) earned a 80-53 win over Ottawa (0-1) to start off the season with an impressive win.
The Ravens forced the Braves into 23 turnovers, which allowed Benedictine to finish the game with a 30-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
Benedictine used a 43.8 percent 3-point shooting effort to build a 41-25 lead by halftime. They used a 24-point fourth quarter to pull away from Ottawa and earn the 27-point win.
Two Ravens finished in double figures, led by the game-high 14 points of Kristen Murphy. She connected on all four three-throw attempts to help lead the Ravens to a 75 percent shooting effort at the charity stripe. Sam Brennan added 10 points while Grace Brzozowski and Serena Parker added 9 points. Saige Baalman missed out on a double-double by two points, as she finished with 8 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Ravens remain in action at the classic on Saturday as they take on the University of St. Mary.
