Women's Lacrosse earns 11-10 win over Missouri Valley College

LEAVENWORTH – The Raven Women's Lacrosse team earned a 11-10 win over Missouri Valley College on Friday night to advance to the KCAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament Championship game on Saturday at 5 p.m.

The win by Benedictine avenged a conference-opening 12-11 loss to the Vikings back on March 5 in Marshall, Mo.

Tara Lobb gave the Ravens a 2-0 lead within the first three minutes of play on Friday, scoring goals on assists from Marianna Brown and Julianne Smith.

Caitlyn Chickey added the Ravens third goal of the game off an assist from Chiara Petruccelli before the Vikings were able to score their first goal of the game.

By halftime, the Ravens lead stood at 7-5.

Clare Hanson and Smith matched Lobb with two goals while Mackenzie Roach, Emily Kippes, Brown and Petruccelli added a goal each.

Smith added a second assist off Kippes' second-half goal, which proved to be the Ravens final goal of the game with 6:51 left to play.

The Ravens return to the University of St. Mary campus today at 5 p.m. for a rematch with top-seeded Ottawa University at 5 p.m. The championship game marks the second time in a week the two schools will square off as the Ravens wrapped up the regular season back on April 16 on the Benedictine campus with a 6-5 comeback win over the Braves.

Saturday's winner will earn the automatic bid into the 2016 NAIA Women's Lacrosse Invitational Tournament.
